Food is meant to nourish you, not punish you!

Good nutrition is essential for achieving optimal health and peak performance. It is fundamental for every facet of health and fortunately it’s an area of life that we can control.

The healing properties of food have been reported by cultures worldwide throughout history. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, said ‘Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food’, some two-and-a-half thousand years ago. There is no escaping from ‘you are what you eat’, and this notion is being reinforced more and more in the field of epigenetics – the study of factors that switch our genes on and off. Mainstream scientists are now aware that the food we eat is one of the influencing factors of the body’s ability to ‘switch on or off’ our genes, which can give rise to either health or dis-ease.

Food is information to our genes and the fuel we put into our mouths dictates how our body performs. The body does its best to compensate but an absence of the correct fuel will not maintain harmony and symptoms or disease processes will, over time, start to emerge.

Nutritional therapy is the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care, stressing the use of whole and organic foods as medicine. It is recognised as a complementary medicine that can help individuals with chronic conditions, as well as those wanting to develop and maintain healthy dietary habits to prevent illness at any age.

Registered Nutritional Therapists use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s health concerns. Nutritional Therapists recognise that each person is unique and treatment plans are tailored to suit each individual’s unique needs, rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. The use of supplements may be included and occasionally some testing may be necessary to provide further information for a well-targeted plan. Treatment plans work with your preferences, busy schedules or any medical plan in order to allow you to take charge of your health and wellbeing.

There is virtually no illness, medical condition or disease process that would not in some way benefit from adequate nutritional support.
