What’s nourishing about this recipe...

Ever thought that walnuts look like little human brains?
Coincidently, they have been recognized as one of the ultimate brain foods. They contain a number of neuroprotective compounds, including vitamin E, folate and the essential fatty acid, omega 3. They contain several unique and powerful free-radical scavenging antioxidants, such as quinone juglone, ellagic acid, ellagitannins, catechins, melatonin, the tannin tellimagrandin and the flavonol morin. Consumption of these anti-inflammatory and antioxidant phytonutrients are beneficial for cardiovascular health and have also been associated with a decreased risk of certain cancers—including prostate cancer and breast cancer.

The medjool dates give a lovely natural sweetness and are high in dietary fibre, which prevents our blood sugar from rapidly rising. They provide a number of minerals, vitamins, and health-benefiting phytonutrients.

Cacao is rich in Magnesium, iron, copper, manganese and vitamin B2, essential micronutrients for health and vitality. It also contains theobromine, which boosts endorphins and increases mental alertness.
